Creating a monthly budget is really quite simply when you use the right worksheets. However, it does require a consistent effort on your part to both create and to live within your budget.
I will admit that there is one type of worksheet that I used in the past and found relatively beneficial, although it had a different kind of flaw. For my Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra classes, I had several books of ”self-checking” worksheets. These worksheets had puns or puzzle questions at the top, and as the students worked the problems they were given some kind of code for choosing a letter to match that answer. If they worked the problems correctly, the letters eventually answered the pun or riddle. Students enjoyed these worksheets, but there are a couple problem areas even with these worksheets. Some students would get the answer to the riddle early and then work backward from letter to problem answer, so they weren’t learning or practicing anything.
With a quick search of the Internet, you can find dozens of free budgeting worksheets to download. There are PDFs and Excel worksheets galore. Some are easier to navigate than others… some look better. So, with all the options out there, which free form should you choose?
We have all been taught the importance of goal setting and, in truth, our everyday lives consist of a series of little goals that we are constantly setting and achieving, even though we are often not conscious of this process. Arriving at work on time, preparing for a business meeting, or even completing household chores are all examples of goal achievement. These same principles can be applied on a larger scale to help you work toward your longer term or lifetime dreams. Wanting something, or even spending a lot of time thinking about it, will not provide enough focus to motivate you to move forward with your goal. You need to write your thoughts down and create a blueprint or road map that is very specific and provides clear direction so you know exactly what you are working toward and what steps you need to take to get where you want to go.
Moving or copying worksheets from one workbook to another may sound like a complicated process but as with a lot of features in Excel it really is quite straightforward. I will describe in detail the two different methods. First I will cover Excel’s built in method for completing this task, and as usual in Excel there is also an alternative way to carry out the task as well, which we will cover also.
An excellent budgeting worksheet will accommodate for your financial goals and help you determine what you can afford or what it will take to meet those goals. It will take into account your income, current debt, expenses and savings to help you generate a plan to meet your goals.
