Let’s look at something we all can relate to, diet and exercise. We start with a goal in mind, for example, to lose eight pounds. Let’s say, we’ve decided to workout five days a week for one month and we are starting next Monday. This is a great example of a way to set a beginning and end date of a goal. A great way to keep track of this is to have a goal setting worksheet filled out in advance, gyms and all types of diets offer these worksheets. Where we can write down our goal, track our progress, and set an end date with a particular result in mind. Yet, for most of us, when it comes to an online business, we expect to get started and get immediate results, and then get discouraged when we don’t. Do you know the feeling? Me too, I’ve been there and done that!
Like a Road Map A goal setting worksheet is like the road map. The map gives you an overview of the route to take, but it does not show all the obstacles such as traffic accidents and road repair on your journey.
Is it easy? No way. It is hard to let yourself go and dream big. Too often we get caught up in the rat race of living month to month, moment to moment, those picky details. We do not let ourselves explore our true desires. Please realize this is not about what you can have. Those are just things. Things will not keep you happy. When you work towards the 4 hour work week, you will have the time to do the activities you always wanted to do. Ownership of ”things” will not help you do these activities. See what Tim Ferriss says about owning things and the dreamlining worksheet.
List Potential Dangers Once you picked your goal. You have to realize there will be obstacles on your way towards the goal.
We have all been taught the importance of goal setting and, in truth, our everyday lives consist of a series of little goals that we are constantly setting and achieving, even though we are often not conscious of this process. Arriving at work on time, preparing for a business meeting, or even completing household chores are all examples of goal achievement. These same principles can be applied on a larger scale to help you work toward your longer term or lifetime dreams. Wanting something, or even spending a lot of time thinking about it, will not provide enough focus to motivate you to move forward with your goal. You need to write your thoughts down and create a blueprint or road map that is very specific and provides clear direction so you know exactly what you are working toward and what steps you need to take to get where you want to go.
In choosing a worksheet, it is important to review the source and check the material. Ensure that the material and answers are accurate. Evaluate the worksheet by completing it yourself. The worksheet should provide information clearly and accurately. Make sure it is exactly what you need to homeschool your child.
